Donated in 2010 by Pretoria Portland Cement for the “Learning to Earn” Work Experience Programme (WEP) students (16 – 18 years old) and for the “Training while Trading” post-school WEP@Work Learnership programme, the bakery is churning out Portuguese, whole-wheat and rye bread and rolls, and they are also making rusks. Rich Products Corporation are involved with assisting with a business strategy, branding, and training for students, and will provide a wide range of pre-mixed bakery products at cost to expand the range of merchandise to include croissants, cakes, pastries and other bakery goods. If you would like to place an order please phone Katrien on 0832707627.

The bakery is part of an integrated system of active businesses which expose students to real-life economic activities to prepare them for future employment. When collecting bakery orders, why not book for a beauty therapy treatment in the Beauty Therapy Training Centre and for light refreshments in the Tsogo Coffee and Craft Shop, have your car washed, and purchase computer consumables, computers and printers from the IT shop.

Even more ideal, tour all of the programmes before hand – you will be amazed at the scope of work being undertaken at the school. Tours are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and take about one and half hours. Booking essential: Contact Marion on 0829733711 (excluding school holidays). School closes at 13.30h.

The Forest Town Ratepayers Association, of which 85% of residents are members, have elected to make the school the “village green” for the local community. The hall will be their hub for ratepayer and other meetings. The school will benefit very positively from this relationship. A new programme with pensioners called “Gogo’s and Mkhulu’s” involves hands-on voluntary interaction with children. Being short staffed, the assistance they will provide to staff will be invaluable. We hope that not only will we benefit, but that those who support and interact with us, will find joy in seeing how valuable their contributions are to us. As they get to know us, word will spread which could encourage others to fund our programmes.
